Good Morning, Miss Dove was based on the book by Frances Gray Patton and it was a big hit with audiences of 1955. It was a sentimental story of small town life that is no longer seen today. While the film may seen a bit hokey today, it still packs an appealing charm. Jennifer Jones portrays the title character from a young girl through four decades of her life. She wore old age make-up and a gray wig for her elderly scenes. It turned out to be one of Jennifer's best reviewed films and her acting was widely praised. The film was a financial hit at the box office, and along with Love Is A Many Splendored Thing, it was a great year for Jennifer. Interesting Tidbits: Olivia de Havilland was first offered the role but she turned it down. Look for silent screen great Mae Marsh in the "run on the bank" scene. Back to Film Index
