Paramount Lists 3 Stars for Movie

Hollywood, CA., Sept. 18 - In line with the new Hollywood idea that big subjects require equally big name personalities, Paramount has signed Jennifer Jones to co-star with Bing Crosby and William Holden in "The Country Girl." The adaptation of the Clifford Odets stage hit will be made late this year by the producer-writer-director team of William Perlberg and George Seaton.
This type of casting, although it involves a small fortune even before the cameras start to roll, is regarded as sound box-office insurance. Experience has proved that a top quality picture with one star name in its cast does not do as well as a film of comparable dramatic stature that brings together three or more top personalities.
Although Paramount would not discuss the salaries paid to Miss Jones and Messrs. Crosby and Holden, it is believed that their combined cost will be more than $400,000. Not so many years ago, Paramount and other studios were making full-length features for that price, and even less.
